ESTELLE LAUGHLIN
A WARSAW GHETTO SURVIVOR:
Estelle Laughlin was born in Warsaw, Poland, to Michla and Samek Wakszlak. Between July 22 and September 12, 1942, the German authorities deported or murdered approximately 300,000 Jews in the Warsaw ghetto. In response to the deportations, several Jewish underground organizations created an armed self-defense unit. Estelle’s father was part of this unit, and they waged the largest single revolt by Jews during World War II.
